Aquavit: Review

Long gone are the days of a Saturday morning just involving a piece of toast, the weekend breakfast has really taken it up a notch in the past few years. From creating a fancy brunch at home (check out our home cured salmon for inspiration) to heading out to explore the best your area has to offer the last thing you want (or your Instagram wants) is a basic breakfast nowadays.

With its beautiful interiors, drawing inspiration from its Nordic origins, the venue is slick, modern and fresh. The London branch follows openings in New York and Tokyo. We headed along for their Brunch and Beats, their nordic cuisine paired with music courtesy of some top-notch Scandi DJ’s. The food

Well it had to be done. I went for the Nordic Breakfast which consisted of crisp rye bread, boiled eggs, smoked cod’s roe and avocado. My thought since eating it: why doesn’t every day start with smoked cod’s roe? It was absolutely beautiful and full of flavour. The rye bread was really delicious and surprisingly filling, and the perfect accompaniment to the rich cod’s roe.

As a side, and to ensure I tried out a little more of the menu, I went for the crab, rye brioche, fennel and Gills favourite samphire. This was tasty, however for me just a little off the mark. The fennel was pickled but was placed on top of the crab a little too wet, which for me took away some of the crab flavour so it didn’t pack as much of a flavour punch as I expected.

Overall Aquavit is definitely worth a visit for an Insta friendly light brunch, and the perfect location for something a bit special. With the London on the Inside offer it’s a great shout for an August weekend meeting with friends.
